James Leipzig, MD, FACS, is a fellowship-trained spine surgeon who specializes in state-of-the-art, robotic, and minimally invasive surgery techniques. Dr. Leipzig brings more than 20 years of professional experience to The Spine Center in Roanoke, Virginia, and is the only surgeon in the area who offers a robotic spine surgery program.
Dr. Leipzig’s education, training, and professional experience span some of the most prestigious institutions across the United States.
After graduating with honors and a bachelor’s degree in physiology from the University of California, Davis, he earned his Doctor of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he stayed on to finish an orthopedic surgery residency. Then, he completed a fellowship in spine and scoliosis surgery at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
His past academic appointments include assistant professor of surgery at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and clinical instructor of orthopedic surgery at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Leipzig is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. He’s also a member of the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons and the North American Spine Society.
