It might seem counter-intuitive, but sitting is actually harder on your back than standing. Between eating meals, driving, and eight hours at your desk, we tend to spend a considerably large amount of our time sitting down.
Sitting obstructs blood flow from getting to your spine and it increases the overall stress on your spine. It is also linked to weight gain, increased risk of heart disease, and a lower life expectancy. Our recommendation is to find ways to get up and get moving!
If you must sit a lot, it is important to find the right setup that will keep you comfortable and healthy. Here are some tips:
-Make sure your knees are slightly higher than your hips
-Keep your chair pushed right up to the table/desk
-Support your arms with armrests
Make sure to get up and walk around often during the day. Try standing up during breakfast or visiting a coffee shop that is farther away from the office. Your spine will thank you.
